You Can Grow Flowers

Work in my journal continues, too, but sometimes at a pretty slow pace.  These pages are unique because the background is a skin of acrylic paint.  The skins were created by applying acrylic paint to a sheet protector, letting it dry and then peeling it off and adhereing it to the journal page.  (Traci Baustista technique).  In this case the left-hand page is on black paper and the right-hand is on white.  The text was computer generated and embellished with marker.  The borders are hand-drawn, flowers and butterfly are stamped and cut out.  I added some cotton thread to three triangular buttons that I found in my stash and added them for dimension.  Why am I thinking Mardi Gras?  Just needs some strings of beads.

"She" Journal Page

This art journal page is multi-media.  The background is part of a paper towel that I used to clean up after several spraying/painting sessions.  Sometimes those papers are the best material.  Pattern was added with stencils and paint.  The girl is a Prima stamp that I layered with patterned paper for the clothing.  She was cut out and adhered on top.  The text was computer generated and the flowers were die cut.   It's just fun to play sometimes.

Journal Page

This is a page from my older art journal which is done mostly with stenciling.  Stencils make things pretty easy and definitely fun.  Hard to go wrong.

The Wise Old Owl

Before we take a closer look at one of the reed houses, I thought I'd end the month with a look into my journal.  This page includes a "tip in," the flap that allows a little more space for the page.  I didn't have a pre-conceived notion when I started this page but wanted to use that big whimsical bird.  He seemed to be looking at something so I decided to actually provide something for him to see and the page evolved.  I hope you have a good day.

I Wrecked A Journal

This journal was a Christmas gift and my granddaughter also received one.  We aren't exactly doing them together but we compare and share our results.  It's rather outside my comfort zone to do some of the suggested "wrecking" such as showering with the book.  But I've ripped, and rubbed it with mud and dragged it while walking.  And while it's not overall an "artsy" journal, I've managed to include a few artsy pages.  The page I'm showing is a collection of "W's" and all of these came from one edition of a Sunday newspaper.

It's good to step out of our comfort zone on occasion and I still have a lot of wrecking to do.  I'll keep you posted.

I Did It!

I managed to complete my page spread for January.  I used white embossing for a resist on the big tag and vaseline resist on the background.  I did some stenciling and stamping and included some die cuts.  Now to see what the suggested February techniques are.

January Tags

I signed up for an online journaling class.  I really didn't need another thing to do but I enjoy journaling and thought it would be an incentive to keep an art journal going.  This month's focus was on resist and the use of just two colors plus white and black.  The first tag used crayon resit, the second is a vaseline resist (which I'd never heard of), the third is white powder emobssing and the last one uses Glossy Accents.  The resist on that one isn't white because I added it to a tag that already had some color.  I've started an actual page spread but haven't finished it yet.  Since there's only one more day in the month, I better hustle to finish it.  Or maybe not.
